Chevron Stitch

Chevron stitch is a line and a filling stitch which you can work on evenweave or plain weave fabrics. It makes a decorative border with a zigzag design which is worked from left to right. Unless working on evenweave fabric where the threads can be counted it is best to draw two guidelines on the fabric to keep your stitches even.

Ok, to work Chevron stitch starting on the left side bring your needle up at 1, down at 2 and up at 3, above the stitch and halfway between 1 and 2. Now on the upper line take your needle down at 4, to the right of 2 and up at 5.

Next take your needle down again at 6 and up at 4 your thread should be above the needle.

On the lower line take your needle down at 7 and up at 8. Repeat a along your line.

As a border Chevron stitch looks really pretty if a French knot is worked in the centre of the V shape or the ends couched as in the last example below.
