Ok, to work Chevron stitch starting on the left side bring your needle up at 1, down at 2 and up at 3, above the stitch and halfway between 1 and 2. Now on the upper line take your needle down at 4, to the right of 2 and up at 5.
Next take your needle down again at 6 and up at 4 your thread should be above the needle.
On the lower line take your needle down at 7 and up at 8. Repeat a along your line.
As a border Chevron stitch looks really pretty if a French knot is worked in the centre of the V shape or the ends couched as in the last example below.
